Metro
Philadelphia, PA Job 97
C/C++ Programmer 40K-70K
The type of work that this person will be doing is mostly data
conversions. That is: taking a file form a client, reading each record, and
loading this data from that record into a system. We also do the opposite, which
is extracting data from our system and formatting it to whatever format the
client wants.
I want candidates that have recent Unix/C++ real-world experience. Not someone who just learned it in school, or did it 5 years ago. I would consider someone who isn't too familiar with Unix if they have a strong C++ background. We also are still currently doing some regular C programming.
I am looking for two candidates of about junior to intermediate level experience (2-5 years) and one person with a more senior level of experience (5+ years). Excellent communications skills are a must, since they will be required to interact with clients and end-users. B.S. in Computer Science or similar is required. It would be around 40L-55K for the intermediates and 55K-70K for the more senior position.
The position will be about 20% analysis and design, and about 80% programming. The analysis and design phase would include talking directly to our client who wants to send data. Most of the work is new development versus maintenance programming, probably about 70%. It sometimes depends on how good the person is.
Also, I don't really need anyone with any database or SQL experience. It's certainly okay if they have it, but our "database" is really just a bunch of very large flat files that have their records accessed by going through some index files. It is really quite fast and efficient, though not as cutting edge.
